Welcome From the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Engineering Technology & Construction Management at UNC Charlotte.

Our programs provide a wide variety of career options in Construction Management, Engineering, and Engineering Technology. We offer the B.S. in Construction Management and B.S. in Engineering Technology programs with majors in Civil, Electrical, Fire Safety, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. The Construction Management and Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs are accredited by the appropriate accreditation commission (either Applied & Natural Science Accreditation Commission or Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission) of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

In addition, graduate study is available at the Masters level in the Department in three degree programs and one certificate: the Master of Science in Construction & Facilities Engineering, the Master of Science in Fire Protection & Safety Management, the Master of Science in Applied Energy & Electromechanical Systems Engineering, and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Energy.  Details for these graduate programs can be found on our website.

The Department faculty has many years of professional experience in industry, government, consulting, and business – and they bring that experience to the classroom every day. The value of those “real-world” experiences is immeasurable and our students benefit as this experience is often intertwined with the lessons of each day. Our professional staff is courteous and eager to serve our students and our faculty. Students receive timely answers, useful advice, and career guidance from our faculty and professional advising staff.

Our students are a motivated and hard-working group of aspiring young scholars. They are dedicated to learning their disciplinary craft, curious about the world, and eager to contribute to society. Our programs provide the academic preparation and real-world skills necessary for their success. Our graduates are sought after for successful careers in industry, government, consulting, and education.

At UNC Charlotte, our programs afford students an opportunity to learn through a hands-on orientation that challenges students to think critically, communicate, and work in teams to solve problems. Opportunities for experiential learning gained through professional internships, co-op, summer employment, and international summer study are also available to provide our students with real-world applications of theory and practice. In summary, we provide practical knowledge along with technical skills for high demand careers.
